Gene Chizik made a huge splash with the signing of 5-star juco quarterback Cameron Newton. Newton, who started his career at Florida before transferring to Blinn Community College will enroll in Auburn for the spring semester. He will be able to practice with Auburn in the spring and compete for the starting position for the upcoming season.
After committing Newton told reporters, "I feel that I can come in and be a main contributor for the Tigers on their road to the SEC title."

Newton led the Buccaneers to a 10-1 record and the NJCAA championship in early December. He finished the season with 2,833 yards passing with 22 touchdown passes and only 5 interceptions and rushed for 608 yards with 16 rushing touchdowns. Newton was also receiving offers from Arizona, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, as well as others.

With the departure of senior quarterback Chris Todd, the juco quarterback will come in and compete with the 4 quarterbacks already on the roster. From looking at the roster I believe Newton will end being the starter for the Tigers next season. His mobility and size is tremendous and should thrive in Gus Malzahn's spread offense.

The signing of Newton vaulted Auburn to number 3 in the 2010 recruiting class according to Rivals. Important date for you Tiger fans is February 3rd the first day high school athletes can sign their letter of intent.

With the bowl win over Northwestern and Cameron Newton coming to the Tiger program things are truly looking up for next season.
